animal rights in costco mag
We belong to Costco and they send out a magazine type thing every month. There is a section where they ask a question and they post answers from people and then they have “pros” to weigh in as well. They posed the question “Should animals have the same rights as people?” in the March issue. Surprisingly there have been some enlightened responses! And there have been some idiots.
I just received the May issue (sidenote: someone remind me to find out how to opt-out of the mag) and people are still responding to the March debate. I am going to post a reply given by one Fallon Turner of Sierra Valley, CA. The emphasis is my own.
NO. There is no way that animals have the same level of consciousness as people. The person who thinks that animals should have the same rights as a human has never seen 1,500 pounds of a stark raving mad cow staring them in the face, blowing snot and then promptly running over them.
Until that stark raving mad cow can explain to why she ran over me in English, then she should stay resigned to her place in the world, that of a cow used for producing meat and milk.
I swear to you on all that is good in this world that is a verbatim quote of the entire response, other than the bold done by me. It absolutely blows my mind that this person is dead serious. Gee Fallon, think the cow was “stark raving mad” because you are abusing her and she just freaking snapped? Kudos to the cow for being fed up and acting on it!
SU-FI to you, Fallon Turner! (it’s a Dane Cook thing, Google if needed)
